About
Nestled in the heart of the stunning Yorkshire countryside, The George & Dragon is a traditional family pub and restaurant. Serving the local community since 1804, we are proud to be part of the picturesque and historic village of Wentworth, South Yorkshire.
Wentworth is a true Yorkshire gem, steeped in history dating back to 1066, when according to the Doomsday Book, Rynold Wynterwade was lord of the manor. In 1250 Robert Wentworth married Emma Woodhouse, beginning the Wentworth-Woodhouse line which ultimately led to the construction of Wentworth Woodhouse, the largest privately owned house in Europe and for which the village is well known.
Whether you’re exploring the famous Wentworth Woodhouse, visiting the Holy Trinity Church, or strolling through the village’s historic walled gardens, our pub is the perfect place to pause and enjoy a traditional pub meal or a refreshing drink.
For walkers, we’re ideally located in an area rich with beautiful trails and scenic views, making The George & Dragon the perfect stop during your outdoor adventure.
Only two miles from Junction 35 of the M1, we’re easily accessible and an ideal destination for a day out, a family gathering, or a relaxing evening meal in a welcoming, friendly setting.
Your hosts, Sarah & Mick, look forward to welcoming you to our traditional Yorkshire pub!
